Arcade Fire light up the L.A. night with rooftop 'Reflektor' party

(Yahoo!) - Thousands of literally shiny happy people — bedecked in silver spacesuits, mirrorball shards, moonboots, jester masks, and metallic body paint in honor of Arcade Fire's fourth album, Reflektor — battled Los Angeles's rush-hour traffic and a street closure at Hollywood and Vine on Oct. 29, all to see the beloved band play atop the fabled Capitol Records building on Reflektor's release day.

The hour-long outdoor concert, part of MTV Iggy and Intel's "Music Experiment 2.0" and streamed live at www.musicexperiment.com, featured a "Be a Reflektor" theme — and diehard fans dressed up with more enthusiasm than they probably will for Halloween this week, drawing inspiration from the event's Pinterest page to illuminate the dimming Hollywood sky with their wildly reflective get-ups.

But it was Arcade Fire, cheekily billed as "The Reflektors," who shined the brightest, playing on a customized, streamer-strewn rooftop stage and tearing through nine brilliant Reflektor cuts. Their set also included two touching nods to the recently departed Lou Reed, when frontman Win Butler fittingly dedicated "Afterlife" to the Velvets legend (and blew kisses towards Heaven at the song's end) and the band later tacked the "Satellite of Love" outro onto "Supersymmetry."

The evening ended with a celebratory spray of tinfoil confetti and an encore of The Suburbs' "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" and Funeral's "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)." Afterwards, as the silver-suited fans made their way down Hollywood Blvd., past the taco stands and souvenir shops, they inadvertently started a Reflektor parade of their own that continued to light up the L.A. night.

Arcade Fire's full setlist was as follows:
Reflektor
Flashbulb Eyes
Afterlife
It's Never Over (Oh Orpheus)
We Exist
You Already Know
Normal Person
Haiti
Here Comes the Night Time
Supersymmetry
Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
